Regions miss out: state budget looks to election

The government is claiming Victoria’s first operating surplus in seven years — but critics say debt remains the bigger story.

On Tuesday, Victorian treasurer, Jaclyn Symes handed down her second budget, claiming a regional investment of more than $2.7 billion, including $481 million for regional transport services and $279 million for regional education and healthcare. HOwever, Lowan MP, Emma Kealy said the State Budget “ignored the fundamentals” and wanted to “back our farmers”.
