Renegades claim under-16 cricket premiership
The Dunmunkle Renegades are the Horsham Cricket Association under-16 premiers, defeating the Horsham Tigers in a high-scoring affair at City Oval on Monday, March 9.

Hugh Weidemann was awarded player of the match for the Renegades, scoring an unbeaten half-century to guide his side to victory.
The Renegades won the toss and elected to bowl, and despite keeping the run rate low, were unable to get an early breakthrough.
Tigers' opening pair Callum Jackson and Joel Plazzer steadily built the innings, putting on a 122-run opening wicket partnership, before Jackson was dismissed for 69 in the 30th over.
Despite the loss of two more wickets, Plazzer continued to build the innings and was finally dismissed in the 40th and final over for 82.
Isaac Hogan (15 not out) assisted with some late-innings runs as the Tigers finished 4/195.
Sid Kingston led the Renegades with 2/14, while William McCurdy had 1/23.
Hugh Weidemann impressed in the field, taking three catches.
Renegades’ opening pair, Hugh and Luke Weidemann, quickly got the run chase off to a strong start, reaching 0/62 after just eight overs.
The pair shared a 106-run partnership before Luke Weidemann was dismissed for 60 off 56 balls in the 20th over.
Jake McKenzie came to the crease and continued the Renegades’ momentum, with the side reaching 1/142 after 27 overs.
The Tigers were able to limit the runs over the next five overs, before some aggressive running between the wickets put the pressure back on the fielding side.
Despite the late wickets of Jake McKenzie (44) and Ryder Hudson, the Renegades got over the line in the 37th over as Harry Noonan hit the winning runs.
Hugh Weidemann carried his bat, ultimately finishing on 62 not out in the winning effort.
For the Tigers, Callum Jackson (1/25) and Bailey Dridan (1/17) were the wicket takers.
Hugh Weidemann spoke with Wimmera Mallee News about his innings and the run chase.
“It was a good team effort,” Weidemann said.
“They set us a good total, and we really had to be on our game to chase it down.
“We got off to a good start and went from there.”
Asked about what it feels like to win the premiership, Weidemann said it was special, particularly considering his team had just fallen short in recent years.
“It’s amazing,” Weidemann said.
“I’ve been here a couple of times and lost, so it’s good to finally get the win.”
