Rotary show highlights breadth of artistic talent

Another successful Horsham East Rotary Art Fair has again highlighted the breathtaking talent of Wimmera artists while raising $8500 to assist the club's charity work across the region and internationally.

Art show coordinator Peter Robertson said more than 300 attended the four-day event in Horsham Town Hall with Rotarians from the club putting in 254 volunteer hours to run the 46th annual event.

"We had a capacity 20 bays of artwork and photography from artists across the region and have already started planning for next year's event," he said.

Multi-prize winning Edenhope artist Meagan Lonsdale won best painting with her cockatiel painting "Pull Up a Perch" while Horsham photographer Baillie Farley took the award for best photograph with "Shrouded Summit".

Nhill artist Gayle Newcombe won people's choice of bay or painting with "Are You Home Yet?" showing a mournful dog peering through a broken wooden gate.

Military artist Peter Hill of Murtoa received an honorable mention with his painting "Early Morning Departure".

Artist and experienced art curator Pippa Mott was art fair judge.

Ms Mott is the inaugural CEO of Halls Gap's new WAMA - Wildlife Art Museum of Australia.
