Rupanyup has put the call out to people or groups who play, sing or make any musical sounds to sign up for inclusion in the Rup Dirt Festival, planned for Sunday April 7.

This will be the 12th annual edition of the popular festival, which attracts people from across a wide area to the small Wimmera town.

The event is largely acoustic, or un-amplified, with a focus on music that can be played anywhere, any time.

Organisers have the thumbs up from author Tim Winton to use the term "Dirt Music", which refers to any music played by everyday people living everyday lives.

Organiser Unmani said all amateur musicians and performers were invited to book in for 30-minute segments.

Venues include a church, outdoor spaces, a grassed area near the town's hall, verandahs and gardens.

"These venues are just begging for someone with a guitar, a banjo, a singing voice or anything else to come to perform before an appreciative audience," Unmani said.

"This is an opportunity for musicians to strut their stuff in a carefree environment where the emphasis is on having fun, making music and listening to it.

"The festival aims to promote the ideals of participatory music at all levels and for all ages."

Organisers asking people wanting to participate or learn more about the event to contact Unmani on 0408 103 194 or Lynette Teasdale on 0429 855 033 or to email rupdirtmusic@gmail.com
