Chaplains are found in Hospitals, Airports, Emergencies, Shopping Centres, communities, and other places.

Hopetoun P-12 College has a proud history of Chaplaincy and has had Chaplain Rev Susan Pearse for 3 years.

Chaplaincy is many things, with part of the role providing a presence in the school, being available when and where needed.

The role is also to be available for Parents, Carers, Families and Staff as well as Students, being aware of the wellbeing of the school community and seeking ideas that might be of benefit.

Chaplain Susan says, “Being a flexible role, I don’t always know what a day will hold,” she said.

“It might include being part of the classroom, preparing and providing lunchtime activities, running the Kindness Club, helping with Buddies, writing articles for the Newsletter or Paper, planning the Art Exhibition (look out for it in Term 3 in September) and whatever else might come up.”

As part of the celebrations, Chaplain Susan hosted a Morning Tea on Tuesday, June 2, for the staff in appreciation of their support, the School Council, and the students, who enjoyed honey joys at lunchtime.
