Partly funded through a Junior Landcare grant, the Scout group has been going to Herman's Hill and Paradise Reserve and recording all the flowers and birds they find.

All of the knowledge will be used to build a garden at Rainbow Learning Group, where visitors can buy plants to create their own native garden.

This is due to start this term.

Rainbow Scouts have also welcomed two new Cubs, Evie and Eli Simpson, during the great start to the year.

Scouts Jasper and Adalyn attended Jamboree, while Rainbow Cubs attended the Wimmera District Cub Camp at Yaapeet.

Canoing at Rainbow Lake and participating in Anzac Day have been among other events.

The group is excited to welcome anyone between 7.5 years and 15 years of age to go along for three nights free of charge to see what they do.

Adults are welcome to join as leaders, adult helpers or committee members.

Scouts Adalyn, Hayden and Xavier report below on the safari adventure.

On April 4 and 5, Rainbow Cubs and Scouts ventured to Monarto Zoo, near Adelaide.

We had a long bus trip, totalling approximately four hours, to get there.

We got lunch in Bordertown on the way.

When we got there, we were lucky enough to get a private zoo bus tour with our own guide.

He had lots of information about the zoo and its animals.

We stayed at a campsite at the back of Monarto Zoo, where we participated in some night activities.

The main reason we decided to visit Monarto Zoo was to learn about how different animals adapted to different conditions.

There are plenty of animals that adapt to savannahs and plenty that adapt to Australian conditions as well.

We also learnt about the zoo's conservation efforts.

Learning all these things gave us a better idea of how we can help the wildlife that lives around Rainbow.

We enjoyed learning all about animals from all over the world.

They were mainly from Africa, but there were plenty of other animals.

As part of our trip we had to write an SIA (information report) about one particular animal of our choice.

Xavier enjoyed having a private tour on the first day.

Hayden’s favourite part was seeing all of the wonderful animals up close in the safari park.

Adalyn’s highlight was seeing all of the carnivores as well as the huge rhinos, and also finding out that the elephant exhibit had opened.

We would like to send a big thank you to Mr Nuske for driving the bus and hope he enjoyed his weekend with the Cubs and Scouts.

Overall, we were so pleased that we got the funding to go on this spectacular trip to Monarto Zoo.
