Conducted by Westech Real Estate, the bidding started at the asking price of $120,000 before taking off and reaching the final mark of $154,000.

At a Hindmarsh Shire Council meeting in August last year, councillors voted to sell the site as it approached the end of its life as a public asset.

After being home to many community groups, the building had fallen into disrepair and did not meet the current customer service standard.

community concerns spread about a significant olive tree in the backyard of the facility.

The tree is believed to have been planted more than 100 years ago, prompting a local to take to Facebook in March last year asking the Dimboola community what they thought should happen to it.

The post drew a mix of responses.

One person wrote "The tree must be saved" while others were waiting to see what solution council would come up with.

After extensive investigations by council staff, a section 173 agreement was applied to the property to protect the olive tree after the property's sale.

This legal contract, recorded on the title of the land, is binding on all future owners and occupiers.

Now, curiosity regarding what the site will be used for sets in.
