Seniors enjoy big day out

More than 50 locals attended the seniors’ concert organised by the Hindmarsh Shire Council on Friday, June 27, at the Mecca Hall in Rainbow.

Overall, 270 senior residents across the shire attended the free musical entertainment in Jeparit, Nhill, Dimboola and Rainbow.

A well-known and highly regarded Acoustic Box Duo was featured in four towns, offering a great selection of music and songs from the 1950s, 1960s, 1970s, 1980s, and beyond.

Hindmarsh Shire Council mayor, Ron Ismay, was delighted to organise the musicals and thanked Foundation for Rural and Regional Renewal (FRRR) for their contributions.

“It is fantastic that Council is able to provide this type of entertainment to our senior residents in their hometowns as it increases their level of access and they feel at home in familiar surroundings,” he said.

“Of course, these types of events would not be possible without the support of organisations like FRRR, and we are extremely thankful to them for their funding contribution.”

Attendees were pleased after the concerts and gave a very positive response to the organisers.

The Seniors Concert series was part of Hindmarsh Shire Council’s ‘Reconnecting Small Communities through Films and Music’ program that also included a series of films being screened in each of the towns, and it was made available through funding received from the FRRR.
