FLASHBACK: September 25 1986
The first North-West Jamborette was held at the Arura Campsite on the Wimmera River at Dimboola during the first week of the school holidays.
Scouts and Guides from Victoria and southern New South Wales attended.
The camp was organised by a committee from the North West Region of the Scout Association and the Wimmera Region of the Girl Guide Association.
The committee was led by the District Commissioner for Scouts, Ralph Westendorf of Dimboola, and Region Commissioner for Guides, Jean Webster of Hopetoun.
The Jamborette, which was over two years in the planning, saw 380 Guides and Scouts and over 100 leaders camping at the site.
Activities during the week included canoeing, archery, abseiling, rock climbing, go-karting, roller skating, rope making, cooking, craftwork, and ham radio operation.
A Bush Dance was held one night with music supplied by the Horsham band “Shades of Troopers Creek,” whilst on the final night, the traditional campfire was held.
Those attending from the 1st Hopetoun Scouts were Todd Decker and Glen Taylor.
1st Hopetoun Guides were Claire Mill, Nadine Malcolm, Carley Decker and Iona Duncan.
