St Michaels, Central Park claim victories in return
The Central Wimmera Tennis Association returned to action on Saturday, January 31, where St Michaels and Central Park claimed victories in round 12 of the pennant competition.

St Michaels prevailed over Kalkee 10-2 in the fixture at Horsham Lawn.
The opening four rubbers were mixed doubles, where St Michaels opened up a 3-1 set lead as Steve Schultz and Mia Rees defeated Kalkee’s Jordan Friberg and Meaghan Pohlner 8-2, Peter Hayes and Violet McGennisken defeated Luke Byrne and Debbie Lawson 8-3, and Chris Ellis and Kassie Peachey overcame Aiden Richardson and Keeley Schultz in an 8-7 thriller.
For Kalkee, Jeff Friberg and Anna Exell defeated Eli Bailey and Jess Cannane 8-5.
St Michaels then proceeded to take a 4-0 sweep in the men’s doubles fixtures as Steve Schultz and Eli Bailey just edged out Jordan and Jeff Friberg 8-7, Peter Hayes and Chris Ellis had a dominant 8-0 win over Luke Byrne and Aiden Richardson, Steve Schultz and Peter Hayes defeated Jordan Friberg and Luke Byrne 8-2, and Eli Bailey and Chris Ellis defeated Jeff Friberg and Aiden Richardson 8-6.
The women’s doubles saw St Michaels claim three out of the four set wins, as Violet McGennisken and Kassie Peachey defeated Debbie Lawson and Keeley Schultz 8-2, Mia Rees and Violet McGennisken overcame Meaghan Pohlner and Debbie Lawson 8-6, and Jess Cannane and Kassie Peachey defeated Anna Exell and Keeley Schultz 8-3.
For Kalkee, Meaghan Pohlner and Anna Exell defeated Mia Rees and Jess Cannane 8-6.
In the other pennant fixture, Central Park continued their undefeated season with an 8-4 win over Horsham Lawn.
Central Park opened the day with three wins in the mixed doubles as Harry Allan and Willow Sainsbury defeated Jae McGrath and Ella Thompson 8-6, Reece Harman and Adele Joseph defeated D’Artagnan Walls and Lydi Boyd 8-4, and Brendan and Sienna Nitschke defeated August Koch and Cherie Wood 8-5.
Lachlan Punchard and Macey Maybery secured Horsham Lawn’s first win of the day with an 8-5 victory over Matt Jones and Tara McIntyre.
Horsham Lawn managed to take out three out of the four men’s doubles, as Jae McGrath and D’Artagnan Walls defeated Harry Allan and Reece Harman 8-0, Jae McGrath and Lachlan Punchard overcame Harry Allan and Matt Jones 8-6, and D’Artagnan Walls and August Koch defeated Reece Harman and Brendan Nitschke 8-3.
For Central Park, Matt Jones and Brendan Nitchske defeated Lachlan Punchard and August Koch 8-2.
Central Park won all four of the women’s doubles rubbers as Willow Sainsbury and Adele Joseph defeated Ella Thompson and Lydi Boyd 8-4, Tara McIntyre and Sienna Nitschke overcame Macey Maybery and Cherie Wood 8-5, Willow Sainsbury and Tara McIntyre defeated Ella Thompson and Macey Maybery 8-2, and Adele Joseph and Sienna Nitschke defeated Lydi Boyd and Cherie Wood 8-4.
After 12 rounds, Central Park lead the competition, Horsham Lawn are second, St Michaels are third, and Kalkee round out the ladder.
