Contractors have begun demolition and excavation to prepare for extension foundations, with the area of the stage increasing from from 29m² to 56m².

Along with the bigger stage, and upgrades to the lighting and power systems, other improvements include a lockable space for storage at the rear of stage, all-abilities access and improved car parking.

A Hindmarsh Shire Council spokesperson said the redevelopment of the Dimboola Soundshell had been a priority of the Dimboola Town Committee (now the Dimboola Progress Association Inc.) for some time.

Funded by the federal government's Local Roads and Community Infrastructure program, Hindmarsh Shire Council, and the Dimboola Progress Association Inc., the upgrades were included in previous Dimboola Community Action Plans

"The stage of the existing Dimboola Soundshell was not considered large enough to safely accommodate multiple performers at the same time, for example school class groups, bands, etc," they said.

"Construction is expected to be completed by early October 2024."

Council said a community concert will be held later this year to officially open the venue, with details to follow.

As the area is now a construction site, with entry for authorised personnel only, parents with children attending nearby activities or events are being asked to supervise them closely to avoid accidents.
