Step back in time to a golden age of rail
Classic diesel trains will once again chug along Wimmera rail lines next month.
Tickets remain available for people wanting to again peer out on the countryside while travelling on rail lines long closed to regular passengers.
Seymour Railway Heritage Centre members will run several diesel locomotives on Saturday October 5 from Horsham to Beulah and Horsham to Rainbow on Sunday October 6. Tickets are selling well with 200 booked for the Rainbow trip and 70 for the Beulah run.
The Spirit of the Wimmera tour includes two diesel locomotives pulling original Spirit of Progress cars, including an iconic Parlour Car and a first-class air-conditioned saloon car.
Tickets remain available for the shuttle train from Horsham to Murtoa during the town's Big Weekend activities on Saturday October 5.
The Horsham to Beulah trip travels through Murtoa to Sheep Hills with a stop to allow people to view silo art, and on to Warracknabeal, followed by a long-table lunch at Beulah.
The Horsham to Rainbow train passes through Dimboola, Arkona and Jeparit where people will have an opportunity to visit Jeparit's Wimmera Mallee Pioneer Museum, view silo art at Arkona and visit Rainbow's Yurunga, the restored historic home of the Cust family, before lunch at the town's Eureka Hotel.
