Stories, Books and Smiles at May Park
Wimmera Libraries brought energy and excitement to May Park on Tuesday, April 15, with its first-ever Friends of the Library volunteer-run book sale and an engaging outdoor Storytime session as part of its school holiday programming.

Volunteers and staff created a vibrant space where families browsed discarded library books and young children gathered for stories under the trees.
Wimmera Libraries used this event to connect with the community beyond library walls and encourage a love of reading during the school holidays.
Volunteer Jenny Adams led the book sale enthusiastically and warmly, engaging effortlessly with children and adults.
Wimmera Libraries' programs and engagement officer, Sammie Brown, and library officer, Bronwyn Hobbs, supported her throughout the event.
Ms Brown appreciated Jenny and said they’re incredibly lucky to have her.
The event marked a milestone for Wimmera Libraries, which ran the book sale using books no longer borrowed or suitable for the collection.
Volunteers and staff worked together to ensure the event’s success and deliver a fun, creative experience to families.
“We had a lot of fun at Horsham’s iconic May Park today, meeting our patrons outside of the library, assisting with the Friends of the Library Book Sale, and engaging young children with our Storytime session,” said Ms Brown.
“We’re looking forward to launching more book sales and volunteer run programs in the future," she said.
“We’ll always aspire to host interactive and engaging school holiday activities for our community.”
Wimmera Libraries also delivered Storytime as part of its regular early years programming, bringing the session outside to boost children’s engagement.
According to Ms Brown, they find such sessions more exciting and stimulating for the children to bring it outside as often as possible.
Wimmera Libraries encouraged the community to share their ideas and preferences for future programs.
“We encourage all members of our community to let us know what school holiday programs you like and want to see the library host,” Ms Brown said.
“That way, we can better program to your needs!”
