At exactly 12pm, students all over Australia gathered to read ‘The Truck Cat’, a heartwarming picture book written by Deborah Frenkel and illustrated by Danny Snell.

The story, which follows Tinka the cat and his owner Yacoub, explores themes of companionship, identity, immigration and the idea of finding home.

The annual event, now in its 25th year, is organised by the Australian Library and Information Association (ALIA) and encourages schools, libraries, early learning centres and communities to read the same Australian book at the same time.

This year, hundreds of schools, pre-schools, libraries and other organisations across the country participated.

The school’s involvement aimed to promote the value of reading and literacy in a fun and engaging way, while also supporting key learning areas of the National Curriculum from Foundation to Year Six.
