Sunnyside, Coughlin Park draw in final round
The final round of the Wimmera Playing Area division one weekend pennant competition took place on Saturday, February 7, where both Sunnyside and Coughlin Park played out a stunning draw.

Both sides were unable to qualify for the finals but ended the season on a climactic note, finishing 74-74 in the matchup at Sunnyside.
Sunnyside won rink one 27-25 as Debra MacInnes, Barry McIntyre, Rod Skurrie and skipper Dale McRae defeated Coughlin Park’s Raymond Watson, Damian Bryan, Peter Beasley and skipper Craig Decker.
Sunnyside’s rink two team of Lane Hyde, Nigel Zanker and Stuart Cowan, skippered by John Ackland, defeated Coughlin Park’s John McDonald, Robert Mewburn and Charles Officer, skippered by Robin Shaw, 31-28.
Coughlin Park won rink three 21-16, as Mark Schumann, Allan Thompson, Rowan Hawkins and skipper Michael Ellis defeated Sunnyside’s Paul Southcott, Roger MacInnes and Chris Trotter, skippered by Gavin Watson.
Horsham Golf finished the season as minor premiers as they defeated Horsham City 68-59 in a top-of-the-table clash.
Playing at home, Horsham Golf’s rink one team of Ross Barnett, Stephen Harris and Geoffrey Bald, skippered by Ash Batchelor, just pipped Horsham City’s Colin Morell, John Burchell and Bruce Campbell, skippered by Anthony King, 20-19.
Rink two saw Horsham Golf overcome Horsham City 23-20, as Hayden Tucker, Danny Schmidt, Ken McClelland and skipper Bradley Robinson defeated William Hogan, Duncan Bottoms, Graham McDonald and skipper Ron Dolby.
Horsham Golf’s rink three team made it a clean sweep as the team of Robert Grieger, Heath Miller and Denis Ballinger, skippered by Gavin Walter, defeated Horsham City’s Douglas Mitchell, John Lehmann and Kevin Smith, skippered by Kevin Clyne, 25-20.
Dimboola returned to winning form as they defeated Goroke Edenhope 88-64 at Edenhope Bowling Club.
In rink one, Dimboola’s team of Darryl Argall, Shannon Williams and Darryl Both, skippered by Peter O’Loughlin, defeated Goroke Edenhope’s Richard Smith, Barry Crick and Trevor Mulraney, skippered by Geoff Lowe, 23-21.
Dimboola then dominated rink two 40-17 as Judith Albrecht, Robert Pyers, David Volke and skipper Daniel Danisch defeated John Moloney, Travis Crawford, Terry Exell and skipper Hugh Caldow.
Goroke Edenhope overcame Dimboola 26-25 in rink three, as the team of Craig Smith, Wayne Caldow and Bruce Ackland, skippered by Philip Robinson, defeated Dimboola’s Greg Cook, Wayne Albrecht and Don Connors, skippered by Alan Krahe.
At Kaniva, Nhill defeated the home side 88-70.
Kaniva took out rink one 27-25, as Janet Kuchel, Paul Pearson, Tyler Cooper and skipper Bruce Dodson, overcame Nicholas Robins, Roger Brown, Greg Ryan and skipper Darren Gebert.
Nhill’s rink two team of Brad Blackwood, Matthew Morrison and Ryder Byrnes, skippered by Kevin Jones, defeated Kaniva’s Darren Maddern, Steve Duthie and Malcolm Coutts, skippered by Jeffrey Meyer, 27-23.
Nhill’s rink three team of Ray Olney, Terry Robins and Barry Cramer, skippered by Ivan Reichelt, proved too strong for Kaniva’s Matthew Hicks, Timothy Meyer and Russell Crouch, skippered by Adrian Coad, with a 36-20 win.
At the end of the home and away season, Horsham Golf finished as minor premiers ahead of Horsham City in second, and Dimboola (third) and Nhill (fourth) made up the top four that will progress to the finals.
Goroke Edenhope finished fifth, Coughlin Park and Kaniva were sixth and seventh, respectively, and Sunnyside rounded out the ladder in eighth.
In division two, Coughlin Park defeated Sunnyside 78-59, Horsham Golf defeated Horsham City 73-56, Nhill overcame Dimboola 69-62, and Goroke Edenhope won via forfeit against Natimuk.
In division three, Nhill Three defeated Suynnyside 80-40; Nhill Four overcame Kaniva 61-54; Coughlin Park Three just edged out clubmates Coughlin Park Four 62-57; and Horsham Golf defeated Horsham City 67-38.
