Swifts overcome fast-starting Saints
The Swifts continue to build their finals push in men’s senior football after defeating Edenhope Apsley on Saturday in round 12 of the Horsham District Football Netball League.
The final score saw the Swifts kick 12.15 87 to Edenhope Apsley’s 7.9 51.
Playing at home, the Saints got off to a strong start, kicking the opening goal as the ybuilt momentum to enter the first break up 28-12.
But the Swifts made an emphatic response in the second term, kicking 36 points to take an 18-point lead into the main break.
A scrappy third quarter saw the Saints reduce the lead to 13 and stay within reach, before a a 35-point fourth-quarter push from the Swifts secured the the win.
For the Swifts, Angus Murray and Todd Matthews were two of the better players, while Ryan Obst and Boyd Packer were two of Edenhope’s best.
Jordan Motton kicked four goals for the Swifts, with Allan Mcintyre leading the Saints, also kicking four.
The result sees the Swifts remain in the coveted top five.
