The Run Home: Local domination on the greyhound tracks
Over the past fortnight, local trainers have put on a clinic with eight victories and multiple placings. Andrea Gurry (Nhill) took the honours with three victories, Garry George (Beulah) led in two, and there were individual victories to Paul Hammerstein (Ararat), the Hartigan team (Horsham) and Heather Baxter (Murtoa).
Juneau Sangria kicked it off for Gurry at Warrnambool, beginning on terms Sangria worked hard to gain a rails run, and he turned the race in his favour with a railing masterclass, scooting clear to hit the line in 22:40sec.
Paw Olyslagers (also at Warrnambool) began beautifully from the inside draw, pushing through to open a three-length lead turning for home, but from here Blow Torch laid down an enormous challenge.
Olyslagers was up for the fight and hung tough to win by a head in 22:45sec.
Paw Lampades turned out at Horsham and was clearly the most impressive of Gurry’s three victors, exploding at box rise to set up a race-winning lead by the first corner.
Lampades simply wasn’t for catching, and was ,ultra-impressive, stopping the clock in a fast 23:18sec.
Is He Lucky for Hammerstein, who relishes a wide draw, didn’t let the punters down, winning over the 410-metre journey.
Beginning well, Lucky stalked the early leader and fellow local Cabao Lapis for the entire journey before swooping down the outside, grabbing Lapis in the shadows of the post and stopping the clock in a nice 23:35sec.
The victory brought up Lucky’s 31st win at start number one hundred and two, a fantastic effort by the greyhound and trainer.
Air Speed then struck at Horsham for George, beginning on terms and holding his position from the inside draw, allowing him to rail hard through the corner and turn for home with a break that was ever increasing, finishing a five-length victor in 23:16sec.
George then backed up on Saturday night with first starter Initial Consult, beginning well from the wide draw, she was able to circle the field and set up a race-winning lead, hitting the line six lengths to the good in 23:44sec.
Cabao Lapis for Bill and Helen Hartigan continued his rich vein of form, displaying a brilliant front-running display over the 410-metre trip, bouncing straight to the front.
Lapis cruised to a near six-length victory in a quick 23:26sec.
Pink Frosting for Heather Baxter jumped from the middle trap but made every post a winner in a dominant front-running display, landing the prize in 23:75.
