This Goat Lady will be pleased to meat you
In recent times a new traders’ stand has been found at local community markets around the region, hosted by the ‘Goat Lady’.

Affectionately known as the ‘Goat Lady’, the affable Jenny Strange from Jeparit breeds and raises ‘rangeland’ meat goats for human consumption.
Ms Strange says, “The goats are well fed and raised on locally sourced variety of beans, barley and a goat mineral blend plus vetch and ryegrass... and are given the best care to produce great-quality meat.”
The goats are processed at Edenhope and then delivered to Edenhope Butcher or Bells Family Butchers in Murtoa to create magic for sausages (a new line) which has become quite popular, as well as diced, curry pieces, chops, and roast.
“We only use local suppliers to help us bring the best quality meat products at an affordable price to our customers,” Ms Strange says.
Goat meat is apparently quite low in saturated fats and has more of the recommended unsaturated fats. Goat meat also has lower levels of cholesterol compared to other meats. Low cholesterol and low saturated fat in the diet may help to decrease the risk of developing heart disease. Goat is also a good source of high quality lean protein.
She says, “Gunyah Park Fresh goat meat is now widely available and sold at the Dimboola, Warracknabeal and Nhill markets, IGA in Nhill, Donald, and St Arnaud and served as a delicious goat curry at the Mealsbox Cafe in Hopetoun” in fact it is available from Hopetoun to Ballarat and across to Mt Gambier.”
“Once a month we offer a home delivery service from Hopetoun to Naracoorte and towns in between.”
Her next visit to Warracknabeal with be this Saturday’s Lions market, where she can be found with some of the other traders under the peppercorn trees outside the Post Office.
