The Man in the Corner: Three cheers to low gears
You can tell it’s peak hay season when there’s a tractor parked out the front of the pub.

The Man in the Corner was sent a memorable snap from Rainbow on Tuesday night: a fine green rig sitting proudly under the Eureka Hotel’s verandah light.
Theories spread quicker than mice in the header shed.
The leading one: the hay contractors have finally run out of utes and grabbed the next best thing.
Another theory was more practical: the car ran out of fuel, and the tractor suddenly became a perfectly sensible Plan B.
And then there’s the most popular idea of all: no diesel at the servo, so the driver simply rolled up to the Eureka to refuel with a fresh batch of barley-based liquid fertiliser.
Strictly top-shelf performance enhancer.
The Man in the Corner does have one question: Did all the other tractors leave early to beat the traffic?
