This weekend, Southern Mallee Thunder will host Nhill, seeking to avenge their round seven loss to the Tigers.

Nhill is currently second, with a record of 10-3, while the Thunder are fourth, with a record of 7-6.

While action in the finals for Nhill is guaranteed, it's not yet for the Thunder, with Minyip Murtoa and Dimboola on their tail and one of the three set to miss out.

So when the Burras and Thunder meet this Saturday at Hopetoun Recreation Reserve, not only will the Thunder be looking to flip the script from the last time they met - when Nhill claimed the game by 16 points - they'll also be looking to boost their finals opportunity.

"It was a good contest last game against Nhill," coach of the Thunder Kieran Delahunty said.

"It was level scores with a few minutes to go and they kicked away, but we certainly learnt some things that day in that loss and I am looking forward to matching up with them.

"There aren't many rounds to go now and we have to keep winning to cement that spot."

The contest comes as the Thunder are starting to hit their straps with a solid win against the Horsham Saints last Saturday.

"I think our ability and fitness to be able to run out the game (last week) in the manner we did was positive," Delahunty said.

"So there are certainly plenty of positives from last week to take into the game this Saturday."
