Southern Mallee returns from the bye ready to launch the second half of its season with a home clash against fifth-placed Nhill.

And they're placed well at the halfway point, in second but on equal points with Ararat (first), Horsham Saints (third) and Stawell (fourth).

This week, Nhill will travel to Hopetoun Recreation Reserve for the hitout, with the Tigers coming off a big win against the Demons last week.

Nhill are currently fifth on the ladder, with a record of 5-3.

Last time these sides played was in the opening round of the season, with Nhill getting the four points, 6.15 (51) to 6.7 (43).

Coaching director at the Thunder, Jake Bridges, said this week was another great opportunity for the side to continue focusing on what they could control and play a brand of footy that was competitive.

"Our last few games have allowed us plenty of learning as a group," Bridges reflected.

"We aren't focusing on ladder position but really focusing on what we can control and working through different modes during the game based on our behaviours and game plan.

"It's a great league with each week a game where we have to bring the right plan and mindset to be competitive."

Although Bridges wouldn't give away any information regarding who would get the job on Nhill's key players, he did confirm they would be putting plenty of time into them.

"We'll ensure we have a few options during the game to adjust what the game throws at us," he said.
