Coach of the Thunder, Steph Thompson, said the heat demanded resilience, and her side responded with an attitude that was positive.

Scores were even at quarter time before the Thunder led by two at half time and five going into the last quarter.

Final scores were Thunder 48 to Stawell 39, with best on court Emma Mill and Rylee Cocks for the victors, and Meg Walker and Alannah Deutsher for Stawell.

"Emma was moved into goals after the first quarter in WA and dominated," Thompson said.

"From coming back after a number of years off due to having a family she did not look out of place.

"Rylee was relentless in the centre, running all day and bringing the ball down the court."

According to Thompson though, their win was an effort from the entire team.

"Every player contributed to a solid team effort," she said.

"I am really happy and proud of everyone."

She said a highlight was the team's versatility, with players being able to adapt to the changes and subs made through the game.

A number of intercepts from Caitlin Douglas in the last quarter was another highlight.
