Coach Kieran Delahunty is pleased with what he saw.

"It was a good opportunity for the guys to get to know each other and it was more about bonding and coming together with the supporters and players," Delahunty said.

"It was a great day to kick it all off. We organised merchandise and had a band play afterward and it was a great, fun weekend with the entire club."

Delahunty said that everyone has shown up in great shape.

"The local guys have put in a massive pre-season. We have had good numbers on the track," Delahunty said.

"A few came out rusty but as the game went on there was a lot of improvement. Kalkee is a young and developing side and it was good to play against a team like that."

"Good skills were on display and good passages so the signs are positive."

Whilst Delahunty is unsure what the best team looks like, everyone has another chance to impress at a practice game against Nullawil in Bendigo in two weeks.

"They are supposedly a good side and they had a great year last year so it is going to be a good hitout for the boys," Delahunty said.

"It's hard to tell what the best team will look like with everyone getting to know each other and a few of the travelers not playing, but everyone has showcased themselves well.

"There were a lot of guys I saw for the first time against Kalkee and they will all get a good opportunity to prove themselves against Nullawil before we take on Warracknabeal in round one."
