Dear Editor,

The election of Emma Kealy as the Deputy Leader of the Nationals in Victoria is a highly significant event and an important reminder for the people of Lowan.

It is significant because our Local Member is now a senior leader of the Victorian Coalition who stands ready and likely to be a major player in the next government of Victoria after the November election, or at the very least, could well be the first female leader of the Nationals in Victoria.

All of this is a reminder that no Independent who might be elected would have been able to position themselves to have such extensive, sustained or widespread influence on broad public policy in Victoria in the present or the future.

Well done Emma.

This is a salutary reminder of what can be achieved when an electorate chooses their Member wisely and with consideration of the mainstream views and policies that are inherent to the Nationals - a far broader and wide-reaching policy agenda than that that typically espoused and advocated by Independents.

It is also a reminder of what can be achieved when youthful talent and previous hard work and commitment is recognised.

I look forward to Emma Kealy’s continued representation of our local interests and her broader work for Victoria in the next Parliament.

Hopefully Emma will be a senior minister and she will be accompanied to Spring Street with other fresh local talent to fully represent the people of Lowan and Western Victoria in the Government of Victoria.

Yours faithfully

Tony Schneider,
Dimboola.
