Tri Horsham spirit lives on through donation
Wimmera Regional Sports Assembly (WRSA) has acknowledged an incredibly generous contribution" from Tri Horsham "to help nurture the next generation of athletes and coaches across the region".
"Although Tri Horsham is no longer an active group, its legacy continues through this donation, ensuring the same spirit of community, participation and personal challenge that defined the group will now support others in their sporting journeys," WRSA executive officer Tony Caccaviello said.
"Formed by a group of local triathletes who loved training together and travelling across the region to participate in triathlon events, Tri Horsham was known for its welcoming and inclusive approach.
"The group prided itself on encouraging people of all abilities to 'have a go', whether as individuals or in teams, and for many years played a key role in organising the annual Horsham Triathlon, an event that grew steadily in popularity thanks to the dedication of its members and volunteers."
Caccaviello said Tri Horsham's donation to Wimmera Sports Foundation was greatly appreciated.
“Tri Horsham’s decision to direct their remaining funds into Wimmera Sports Foundation is a wonderful gesture that ensures their impact continues,” Mr Caccaviello said.
“It means more Wimmera athletes and coaches will have the opportunity to pursue their sporting goals, building on the same values of fun, connection and personal challenge that Tri Horsham represented.”
Wimmera Sports Foundation provides direct financial support to promising local athletes and coaches to help cover the high costs of travel, training and competition.
Caccaviello said the foundation reduced barriers for those striving to reach the next level in their sport, ensuring talent in the Wimmera had a fair shot, no matter where they lived or how far they needed to go.
Eligibility for Foundation grants is open to any athlete or coach who:
- is aged 12 years or older
- is an active member of a Wimmera club or association that is a WRSA member and
- lives within the Wimmera catchment area.
Caccaviello said the WRSA was deeply appreciative of the donation and proud to honour Tri Horsham’s contribution to the region’s sporting life.
“This act of generosity ensures the values of participation, friendship and community that Tri Horsham embodied will continue to inspire others in the years ahead,” he said.
