Vale Ian McLean
Rainbow has farewelled one of its most dedicated community members, Ian Alexander McLean, who passed away peacefully on June 28, 2025, at the age of 78.

Born in Rainbow on June 9, 1947, Ian was the beloved son of Neil and Mary (Molly) McLean, and the younger brother of Fayisse (Clarke) and Heather (Donovan).
After completing his schooling in Rainbow, Ian worked on the family farm before embarking on decades of service to his community.
Ian’s contributions were extensive, with a remarkable 60 years as a member of the CFA, 41 years in the Lions Club, and active involvement in Landcare’s Plantation Timber and Water Reserve.
He also served with distinction in many local organisations, including the AMP Society, where he held the role of President; the Rifle Club; the Southern Mallee Ski Club; the Enduro Committee; and the Pioneer Museum in Jeparit.
Outside his community service, Ian had a wide range of passions, including yabbing, duck shooting, four-wheel driving, camping, water skiing, spotlighting, and crafting metal garden art.
He will be remembered as a devoted family man, leaving behind his loving wife, Joy; son, Aaron; daughter, Zoe; and their families, along with many friends who valued his generosity, humour, and tireless dedication to the district.
