Vets out in force at Minyip, Hopetoun

On Monday June 30 the Wimmera Veteran Golfers played a 4BBB stableford round at Minyip Golf Club with 55 playing (42 men and 13 ladies).


The day's winners at Hopetoun included Mal Elliott, Bryan Dufty, Chris Phelan, Max Burns, Wayne Norton, Brendan Etherton (Jacko) and Colin McKenzie.

The winners for the day with a fantastic score of 47 points were Norrie Poulton and Graham Puckle from Hopetoun.

Runners-up with 46 points were Neil Kerber and Dexter Schilling (Horsham), and third place went to Roger Perris and Rob Exell (Moor Park) with 44 points on a three-way countback.

Nearest the pins: 6th Val Scott (Horsham) and Graham Puckle; 13th Helene Turvey (Horsham) and Peter Hammond (Horsham); 16th Janice Midgley (Minyip) and Roger Perris; 18th Chris Campbell (Murtoa) and Mark McGrath.

Earlier, on Monday June 16 the Wimmera Vets played our first round of the Wimmera Veterans Sandgreen Championships at Hopetoun Golf Club with a great turnout of 51 players from as far out as Kaniva, St Arnaud and Grange! (41 men and 10 ladies).

A grade (1-16): winner on a countback was Bryan Dufty (Nhill) with 37, runner-up also on 37 was Brendan Etherton (Nhill) and third was Mal Elliott (Grange).

B grade (17-23): winner was Chris Phelan (Warracknabeal) with 37, runner-up was Colin McKenzie (Horsham) with 36 and 3rd on a countback with 35 was Wayne McDonald (Toolondo).

C grade (24+): winner was Max Burns (Murtoa) with 35 on a countback with runner-up Stan Ryan (Warracknabeal) also on 35 and third place went to Wayne Morton (Jeparit) with 34 on a three-way countback.

NTPs: 1st Chris Campbell and Tubby Drendell; 5th Chris Campbell and Bob Hayes; 11th Chloe Mulraney and Graeme Launer; 15th Chloe and Bryan Dufty; 17th Anne Morton and Tubby Drendell.

Our next event was on Monday July 7 at Dimboola Golf Club meeting at 9.30am for 10am hitoff in the second round of the vets' sandgreen championships.
