A warm welcome for our newest citizens
On Wednesday, May 20, 20 people from eight countries, including four children, became Australian citizens at a ceremony held at the Horsham Rural City Council Civic Centre, attended by friends and family.

The new citizens, representing the United Kingdom, Sudan, Fiji, India, Sri Lanka, Lithuania, Zambia, and the Philippines, pledged their loyalty to Australia before community members and Council representatives, marking an important milestone and a moment of shared pride.
Mayor Brian Klowss and chief executive Gail Gatt led the ceremony, where each new citizen took an oath and received a certificate and a native plant.
“Becoming a citizen is a deeply personal and meaningful moment. It’s about belonging, contributing, and embracing the values that unite us as Australians,” Cr Klowss said.
“The native plants are a symbolic gift representing new roots in the community and a growing future in Australia.
“This citizenship ceremony is a celebration not just for the individuals involved, but for our whole region.
"Our newest citizens reflect the growing cultural diversity of the Horsham region, bringing new energy, stories and experiences to our community.”
The council hosts about six citizenship ceremonies each year on behalf of the Australian Government.
“It is a privilege to welcome our newest citizens, from all walks of life,” said Cr Klowss.
“This is a significant day for each of them, and it is a joy to know they have chosen to call Horsham home, and to help enrich our community.”
