Warrack home in close tussle

Kellalac and Galaquil were the big winners at Senior Table Tennis on Monday night, while Warracknabeal also won but with a much closer result.

Match one saw Kellalac win over Brim 9 sets to 3, 28 games to 15, 404 points to 344.

Brim began well taking the first two singles when Owen Osborne def Kellalac’s Jason Robinson 11-9, 11-4, 11-6, and Zeik Clark won over Shane Wardle 11-6, 3-11, 11-2, 11-5.

Kellalac struck back taking the next two singles - Craig Byron def Brim sub Clive Young 10-12, 11-8, 11-9, 11-8, and Merryn Baxter def Brim sub Jack Seebohm 11-6, 11-1, 11-6 followed by the doubles where Jason and Shane def Owen and Zeik 6-11, 11-7, 11-9, 5-11, 11-8 and Craig and Merryn def Clive and Jack 11-7, 12-10, 11-9.

Brim was able to win just one more singles set when Owen def Shane 11-9, 11-5, 11-5. The remaining three singles and two doubles all claimed by Kellalac - Jason def Zeik 11-7, 11-4, 12-10, Craig def Jack 11-2, 11-4, 11-3, Merryn def Clive 5-11, 11-5, 12-10, 11-7, Jason and Craig def Owen and Clive 5-11, 11-5, 12-10, 11-7, and Shane and Merryn def Zeik and Jack 11-7, 9-11, 11-4, 11-3 to give Kellalac a convincing victory by six sets.

Match two saw Galaquil gallop home to win over Wallup 9 sets to 3, 30 games to 11, 422 points to 333.

Wallup won the first singles when Sandon Schultz def Galaquil’s Charlie Martin in a close set 9-11, 11-9, 8-11, 11-4, 11-9. Galaquil then took over winning the next three singles - Lindsay Martin over Brad Martin 13-11, 11-6, 13-11, Graeme Koschitzke def Wendy Lehmann 11-6, 11-5, 11-2, Jagger Livingston def Eli Robinson 11-7, 11-7, 11-3 followed by the next two doubles - Charlie and Lindsay def Sandon and Brad 5-11, 11-7, 8-11, 11-8, 11-9 and Graeme and Jagger def Wendy and Eli 17-15, 11-5, 11-5.

Wallup fought back briefly in the reverse singles when Sandon won over Lindsay 11-9, 11-9, 11-7 and Wendy won over Jagger 10-12, 11-6, 13-11, 11-3. Galaquil won the remaining two singles, Charlie def Brad 11-3, 11-7, 11-9 and Graeme def Eli 11-5, 11-3, 11-2 followed by the last two doubles where Charlie and Graeme won over Sandon and Wendy 11-9, 11-7, 12-10 and Lindsay and Jagger def Brad and Eli 11-7, 11-5, 11-9 giving Galaquil the match by six sets.

Match three saw the closest match of the night where Warracknabeal were winners over Bangerang 7 sets to 5, 25 games to 20, 444 points to 407.

Warracknabeal claimed the first two singles when Trevor Hemer def Bangerang’s David Baxter 11-8, 11-4, 11-6, and Christiana Henke victorious over Bangerang’s John Woods in a very close set 14-12, 12-14, 7-11, 12-10, 11-6.

Bangerang won the next two singles sets - Simon Leslie def David Ward 12-10, 13-11, 12-10 and Amy Holland def Fred Ackland 11-7, 8-11, 11-3, 11-4. Bangerang won the first doubles with David B and John successful over Trevor and Christiana 11-9, 8-11, 11-6, 11-6.

Warracknabeal fought back to take the next doubles when David W and Fred def Simon and Amy 11-6, 5-11, 11-8, 11-9.

The reverse singles were won alternately. Bangerang David B def Christiana 2-11, 11-7, 14-12, 8-11, 11-7, Warrack’s Trevor def John 11-5, 9-11, 11-5, 11-9, Bangerang’s Simon def Fred 6-11, 11-1, 11-7, 11-7 and Warrack’s David W def Amy 11-8, 11-1, 11-4.

Scores were now even at five sets each before Warracknabeal sealed victory taking the last two doubles sets - Trevor and David W against David B and Simon 11-5, 13-11, 11-4 and Christiana and Fred over John and Amy 11-4, 9-11, 11-8, 14-12, to give them the match by two sets.
