Warrack Stars overpower Giants
Day two of the round seven match, and final game of the home and away season was a one-sided encounter on Saturday morning at Anzac Park, with the Warrack Stars chalking up a strong win as we head toward the business end of the 2023-24 season of junior cricket.
Following the Warrack Stars amassing 106 from their 40 overs last week, it was the Giants' turn at the crease to bat. The Giants lost two early wickets in the first three overs of the day with Jackson Moore and Max Roberts dismissed for four and zero respectively. Chad Hartnett and Oliver Credlin were both bowling a good line and length making runs hard to come by.
When Parker Hallam was dismissed for four, and in the same over following a great piece of fielding by Colby Anderson, which saw Colt Decker run out at the non-striker’s end, the giants were in trouble. The wickets appeared to fall at regular intervals from this point.
The Warrack Stars fielded very well by holding all their catches including a sharp chance taken by Ryan Holland in the slips to dismiss young Lenny Weir. The pick of the batters for the giants was Denzel Hallam who was able to occupy the crease for some time scoring three runs, however, the scorecard was not pretty with extras totaling 28 allowing a final score of 52 all out.
The pick of the bowlers for the stars was Oliver Credlin with 2/8 from four overs and Chad Hartnett with wonderful figures of 4/9 from four overs. The scene is now set for an exciting grand final next weekend.
The Brim Recreation Reserve will be the venue for the season decider as the Giants take on the Stars for the Warracknabeal District Junior Cricket Association Premiership. The Game will be played over Saturday and Sunday, Feb 24 and 25, starting at 8.45am till 11.30am. The presentation of the Premiership Trophy along with all player awards will take place on the Sunday after the final where a BBQ lunch will be provided.
