Warracknabeal Bowling Club welcomed Stawell Bowling Club on Saturday to their first of their two-round challenges.

Seven teams from each club played 21 ends.

Stawell gave Warracknabeal a good challenge on their own green, only being 11 shots down at the end of the day.

When the return trip is played, Warracknabeal will need to perform extra well to retain their lead.

The best performed team for Stawell was Joy Seeary, Robert Nicholson and Bruce Blenheim(s). They defeated Brendan Bibby, Ken Schilling and Isobel Davison(s) 33/11.

Warracknabeal’s best team was Debra Steed, Terry Smith and Graeme Shalders(s), who defeated Judi Fenwick, Robin Austerberry and Peter Walker(s) 33/12.

The game between Stawell’s Coll Hall, Keith Brilliant and Robert McGregor(s), and Des James, Ian Hewitt and Shane Langman, was a draw st 17-all. (No bragging rights for either team).

Lesley Habben's(s) team of Graeme Healy and Murray McGaffin were too strong for John Witney, Robyn Goodwin and Graham Walder(s) winning 25/17.

Dale Stronach, Bill Kerr and Gary McLean(s) defeated Peter Cross, Trevor Preston and Rita Pyke(s) 29/17.

Calvin Pendlebury’s(s) team of Simon Cousins and Brian Gunn had a close game against Neil Coates, Annette Dwyer and Robert McConachie(s) 18/16.

In the last game, Gaile Arnold, Noreen Belot and Brian Taylor(s) defeated Glenda Cameron, Les Montgomery and Andrew Reading(s) 27/21.
