Weidemanns guide Renegades to victory

Luke and Hugh Weidemann produced match-winning knocks for the Dunmunckle Renegades under-16 side in round three of the Horsham Cricket Association junior season.

In the under-16s competition, the Renegades, Horsham Tigers and Homers produced victories on Friday, November 7. 

At Minyip Recreation Reserve, the Bullants won the toss and elected to bat against the Renegades. 

Jack Combe (38) and Isaac Thomas (21 not out) led the visitors to 6/124 off 22 overs, while Luke Weidemann (2/8) and Braxton Starick (2/4) were the key bowlers for the Renegades.

Luke Weidemann continued his exploits with the bat, reaching 50 retired not out, while Hugh Weidemann hit 48 as the home side reached 3/125 to win with four balls to spare, hitting 21 runs in the last three overs to seal the victory. 

Jeremy Fischer (1/13) and Mason Hair (1/24) were the Bullants’ wicket takers. 

At Dimboola Recreation Reserve, the Horsham Tigers proved too strong for the Blackheath Dimboola Bulls, winning by 86 runs. 

Electing to bat first after winning the toss, Horsham Tigers' opening batsmen Callum Jackson (53 retired not out, including nine boundaries) and Joel Plazzer (31) were pivotal as the visitors totalled 7/130 off the 22 overs. 

Lenny Clark led the Bulls with figures of 2/20, while Charlie Taylor produced an economical 1/11 from his three overs. 

In response, a depleted Bulls side was bowled out for 7/44 in the 18th over. 

Edward Schorback led the side with 17 not out, while Joel Plazzer (3/1) and Isaac Hogan (2/0) stood out in an impressive bowling performance from the Tigers.

At Dudley Cornell Park, the Horsham Saints elected to bat against Homers. 

Jack Crute (20) and Hunter Schmidt (11) reached double figures as the Saints finished with 8/79 from their 22 overs. 

Chaz Smith (2/16) claimed two wickets for Homers, while Finn Arnel produced an economical 1/2 from two overs. 

In response, Homers hit 4/101 in just under 16 overs to win, led by unbeaten knocks of 50 from Phoenix Hopper and 15 from Henry Walsgott. 

Finn O’Loughlin (1/6) and Liam Carracher (1/9) were the pick of the Saints bowlers. 

In the under-14s competition on Saturday morning, the Bullants and the Tigers continued their undefeated starts to the season, while the Blackheath Dimboola Bulls notched up their first victory. 

Playing at Davis Park in Nhill, West Wimmera elected to bat against the Bullants, totalling 7/49 from their 20 overs. 

Clayton Hiscock top-scored for the Warriors with 7, while Thomas Combe and Zavier Lang led the Bullants’ bowling effort with figures of 2/4 and 2/5, respectively. 

In response, the visitors finished with 2/142 as Milton Ellis (23), Thomas Combe (21), Zavier Lang (20) and Jazz Hopper (20) all retired not out with knocks of 20 or more. 

Cooper Cramer had figures of 1/9 for the Warriors, with Clayton Hiscock producing a run out to go with his economical bowling (0/4 off two overs). 

At Minyip Recreation Reserve, the Horsham Tigers elected to bowl against the Dunmunkle Renegades.

The home side reached 9/71 from the 20 overs, led by 19 not out from Judd Thomson and 17 not out from Riley Trotter.

Felix Foster (2/5) and Lenny Carter (2/8) each picked up multiple wickets for the Tigers.

Openers Harvey Brown and Peter Smith (both retired 20 not out) laid the foundation of the Tigers’ innings as the visitors finished 1/125 to win. 

Judd Thomson (0/3) and Jagger Williams (0/5) impressed with their economical bowling for the Renegades. 

At Dudley Cornell Park, the Horsham Saints elected to bowl against the Blackheath Dimboola Bulls. 

Openers Edward Schorback (21 retired not out) and Archie Ward (20 retired not out) led the way as the Bulls totalled 4/120 from the 20 overs. 

Cooper Rentsch (1/14) and Beau Hudson (1/18) were the Saints’ wicket takers. 

Thonas Jackson (11 retired not out), Jamec Mackereth (10) and Daniel Dossett got the Saints off to a good start before the team eventually finished at 6/101, 19 runs short of the Bulls' total. 

Schorback backed up his fine batting performance with 2/10 from his three overs.
