Williams, Lewin and Toet shine at Run the Beal

The 2025 Run the Beal attracted a strong field across junior and senior categories, with several local families and familiar names featuring among the winners.

More than one hundred runners braved the weather on Sunday, October 26, to take on the 21km, 10km, 5km and fun run events.

A total of 23 runners completed the half-marathon, featuring four laps of the iconic course.

Mitch Williams delivered a commanding performance to take out the feature event, clocking one hour 21 minutes 14 seconds at an average pace of 3:50 per kilometre.

Williams finished ahead of Mitch Johns (1:24:57) and Matt Walder (1:27:47).

The first woman home was Abby Hallam in 1:37:16, finishing seventh overall and well clear of Helen Kelly (1:47:31).

Twenty women and 22 men ran the 10 km race (two laps), with many runners bunched together from start to finish.

Wayne Toet set a strong early pace and held on to win in 44 minutes 34 seconds (4:27 min/km).

Sarah Lewin claimed second overall and first woman in 45:23, with Dane George (45:41) and Joel Beggs (47:14) rounding out the men’s podium.

The top-five female finishers were Lewin, Rachel Hateley (48:16), Millie McRae (50:17), Kim Phelan (51:19) and Claire Robertson (55:40).

Finally, the 5km race, a quick lap around the course, drew 42 runners.

Jack Toet led from start to finish in 23 minutes 31 seconds, ahead of Harry Williams (24:33) and Campbell Mansfield (25:29).

Scarlette Williams was the first female across the line in 26:11, placing fourth overall, followed by Stephanie Rickinson (31:01) and Samantha Rickinson (31:12).

The Toet, Williams and Rickinson families all featured across multiple events; however, one family claimed the honours as the most dedicated.

The Beal family - Shannon, Charlotte and Nikki - travelled from Benalla to run in their namesake event.

"We couldn’t miss the chance to run in the ‘Beal," Nikki said.
