Wilson Street speed limit cut to 40km/h for safety
Next time you drive down Wilson Street, ease off the accelerator, as you might get booked for overspeeding the new speed limit that has been in place since Tuesday.

The speed limit has been reduced from 50km/h to 40km/h on a 750-metre stretch of Wilson Street, Horsham, between Gardenia Street and Urquhart Street to boost safety, effective August 12.
The Department of Transport and Planning said the change aims to provide a safe environment to both drivers and pedestrians.
"We're lowering the speed limit on Wilson Street to keep pedestrians and drivers safe," a department spokesperson said.
DPT stated that the key stakeholders, including Horsham Rural City Council, bus operators, emergency services and freight operators, were notified ahead of the change.
The department said it considers a range of factors when reviewing speed limits, such as vehicle volumes, types of road users, and the road's historical safety record.
"We advise motorists to always drive to the conditions and observe speed limits in place," the spokesperson said.
The speed changes are assessed by the department's teams of road safety specialists against the state's Speed Zoning Policy and Speed Zoning Technical Guidelines.
The speed limit on Henty Highway has also been reduced from 80km/h to 70km/h just before Plozzas Road.
Horsham Rural City Council mayor Ian Ross supported and welcomed the change by DPT to improve safety for pedestrian and vehicle movement.
"Horsham's Town Hall is an example of one of the key sites that fronts Wilson Street," he said.
"This speed limit reduction will make it safer for patrons attending events at that venue."
The department said getting speed limits right for each road helps prevent crashes and reduces the severity of collisions when they occur.
