The Wimmera River Discovery Trail, a walking track connecting Dimboola and Jeparit, is almost open for public use with an official opening happening later this month.

The Wimmera River Discovery Trail is a walking and cycling trail that links Dimboola and Jeparit, showcasing the Wimmera River and its stunning natural surroundings between these two towns.

It was first proposed over ten years ago and after many years of initial planning, securing State and Federal funding, and working closely with Parks Victoria and Barengi Gadjin Lands Council, the trail is now ready for official opening.

"While this project has taken much longer than expected, it’s truly thrilling to see it come to fruition, and we welcome this fantastic asset for locals and visitors," Hindmarsh Shire mayor Ron Ismay said.

"We'll continue to look for opportunities to enhance the trail into the future."

The 56km trail along the Wimmera River corridor has been divided into six sections, allowing users to complete it in parts or as a whole.

More information about the Wimmera River Discovery Trail, including maps, entry points, and user guides, will be available at the official opening and will be linked to the council's website from this date.

The Wimmera River Discovery Trail opening will follow the Tourism and Business Forum being held at the Antwerp Hall earlier in the day.
