Wimmera Scouts - TrailJAm
The Wimmera Scout District went global when they took part in TrailJam, a hike that can be done anywhere in the world by all Scout sections. It’s a chance to connect with our worldwide Scouting family right here in our area.

This year, the TrailJam hike was set along part of the Wimmera River Discovery Trail.
Scouts from Horsham, Warracknabeal, and Rainbow started at Tarranyurk, with their hiking packs ready, heavy clouds overhead, and raincoats at the ready for a challenging overnight hike.
Cubs and Joeys from Rainbow, Warracknabeal, and Horsham hiked from Antwerp along the river and back, covering 5.6 kilometres through light rain and muddy ground.
Our younger Scouts handled the muddy trail like mountain goats - slipping and sliding in the mud while the rain sprinkled down.
They reached an old limestone house and later found out they were just a few meters from the Eucalyptus Distillery… next time!
The hike gave everyone a chance to see how important it is to be prepared for all kinds of weather and to check the weather forecast beforehand.
For Scouts, it was also a good lesson in packing properly and protecting their gear from rain and mud.
Reaching the dry Antwerp Hall was a relief.
The Cubs arrived just before the heaviest rain, while the Scouts returned wet and muddy but excited and ready for dry shelter.
After a good night’s sleep and a sunny morning, Scouts set out again with new skills from the day before.
Throughout both days, Scouts and leaders worked together as a team, encouraging each other to keep going and helping out, especially when crossing deep gullies or climbing over fences.
Walking on the smooth asphalt road to complete the last part of the hike to Ebenezer Mission Rd was much easier and was enjoyed by all.
Scouts completed 22kms over the weekend. Everyone, including our fantastic leaders who supported each youth member, should be proud of what they achieved.
Even though it was raining, it wasn’t cold or windy, which made the experience more enjoyable.
Since it was Volunteer’s Week, the hike was a perfect example of how our leaders and supporters give their time to help young people take part in exciting activities.
Scouting is like one big family that reaches all around the world, offering special experiences for everyone.
A huge thank you to all our amazing leaders, supporters, and parents who help keep our groups growing and supporting our youth.
If you’re interested, all groups in Ararat, Horsham, Warracknabeal, and Rainbow are looking for adults to help out in both uniformed and non-uniformed roles.
Feel free to reach out, and we can help you get involved in Scouting.
