WMN mums celebrate being a mum
In honour of Mother's Day, we asked some of our Wimmera Mallee News staff about being a mum.

Alison Ey
Job title: Office manager
Children: Mitchell, 19
What do I like about being a mum: The unconditional love and the bond between a mother and their child.
Favourite thing to do with them: Cooking and going on trips.
My favourite memories: Dancing with Mitch at his deb ball.
Advice to other mums: Enjoy every minute as they grow up too quickly.
Dee Devlin
Job title: Media sales consultant
Children: Ash, 27, and Cait, 23
What do I like about being a mum: I love seeing them grow up and develop their own personalities. I love that even though they are older they still come to me for advice and even just to hang out.
Favourite thing to do with them: Now the kids are older and have their own lives, my favorite thing is just talking with them about day-to-day stuff and being with them and, of course, the mumma hugs when I can get them.
My favourite memories: It would have to be Christmas times and birthdays, decorating the house and making a fuss.
Advice to other mums: There is no rule book. So many people are going to give you advice and what they think. Take it in and then go with your gut. You will make mistakes and that's okay, we all do, but you are doing the best that you can.
Kirsten Ridgeway
Job title: Media sales consultant
Children: Jude, 15, and Kalina, 17
What do I like about being a mum: I love watching the positive impact our children have on those around them, and of course the love and laughter.
Favourite thing to do with them: Travel: the planning, preparation, excitement and then the going and doing. And cooking, which brings people together and is a great life skill.
My favourite memories: Being at the beach or in the bush near water and enjoying our free time together with no cares in the world.
Advice to other mums: I would encourage parents to grow with their children. It's okay to evolve and change perspectives as you learn more about life and how to parent. Stay curious and keep learning and looking after yourself – however that might look for you.
Zoey Andrews
Job title: Senior journalist
Children: Bohdi, 8, and Lucas, 12
What do I like about being a mum: The bond we share as mother and son – they know I will always have their backs – and the laughs and memories we have and make together.
Favourite thing to do with them: Cooking, being involved with their sport, enjoying a movie together. Just existing with a couple of boisterous little larrakins.
My favourite memories: They are the ones that happen at home, when we are unapologetically ourselves and we dance and sing, laugh and be silly.
Advice to other mums: Enjoy every minute because they grow so quickly. You only get one chance to raise a child, so don't let it pass you by. And if something they do isn't going to matter in a year, then don't let it stress you out too much when it happens.
