The scholarship, awarded by BBM Global Footprints, recognises young leaders with a strong commitment to sustainable agricultural practices.

Ms Hansford said her passion for sustainability stems from her belief in protecting the land for future generations.

“Implementing sustainable agriculture practices is incredibly fulfilling for me,” she said.

It aligns with my personal values and my belief in the importance of preserving our natural resources for future generations.”

She said seeing the impact of these practices inspired her to continue pushing for positive change.

“Seeing the positive impact of these initiatives on both the environment and our operations has motivated me to continue advocating for sustainable practices in our industry,” she said.

Ms Hansford will travel to Europe and Canada to explore innovative, eco-friendly farming systems.

“Through my scholarship, I hope to gain a global perspective of sustainable agriculture practices and innovative approaches to environmental conservation,” she said.

“Countries like Germany and the Netherlands are renowned for their efficient and eco-friendly agricultural systems, and Canada offers a unique perspective on farming in diverse climates with sustainability and resilience.”

Her selection came with high praise from the judging panel, who commended her for a deep understanding of regenerative agriculture.

“This applicant has demonstrated a clear understanding of the need to integrate sustainability into their industry,” the assessment panel noted.

Ms Hansford said she first heard about the opportunity through a former teacher, Gaye Cameron.

“Gaye, who was a past teacher of mine, sent me the application form saying she believed it would be a huge opportunity.”

When the call finally came through, Alanna said the moment was unforgettable.

“I was super excited when I got the phone call from Sue, who is the CEO of BBM,” she said.

“I was speechless, and the first people I called were my mum, Ryan, my other half and Gaye.

“They were all just as excited for me.”

She described the award as the proudest moment of her life so far.

“It’s my biggest and proudest moment to date and it genuinely is a dream come true,” she said.

“I’ve always had this passion for agriculture and sustainability, and this gives me the ability to travel across the world to be part of these changes and new practices being implemented.”

Looking ahead, she is eager to meet experts and mentors overseas.

“I’m most excited about all the different opportunities to learn from so many influential people,” she said.

“I’m grateful for the chance to do the same for others one day.”

Reflecting on her journey, Ms Hansford said the past few years taught her resilience and optimism.

“You never know what the future holds, especially in such an adaptable industry,” she said.

“My aspirations for the future are very focused on being able to make a difference, getting out there, and just giving it a go.”

She also shared advice for other young people chasing their dreams.

“Don’t let anyone discourage you, as you are more capable than you’ll ever believe,” she said.

“My mum has told me that since I was in high school, you can’t succeed if you don’t give it a go.

“Learn as much as you can from the people around you and give it your all.”
