The program has been created as part of the Australian Government’s commitment to strengthen investment to support the delivery of safer and more productive roads across Australia.

The focus areas are road safety, productivity, bridge renewal, road resilience, road sustainability and heavy-vehicle rest areas, merging the shire's Bridges Renewal Program (BRP) and Heavy Vehicle Safety and Productivity Program (HVSPP) into one program.

Council's proposed list of projects is similar to previous applications which include:

* Hopetoun Yaapeet Road

* Sea Lake Lascelles Road

* Banyena Pimpinio Road

* Sheep Hills Warracknabeal Road

* Glenorchy Road

* Minyip Banyena Road

* Truck parking bays.

The delivery timeframe for successful projects is within 36 months from the date the funding offer is sent out.

Council will make a 20 per cent contribution, with the remaining 80 per cent to come from the funding body.

After community consultation, during which no objections to the proposed changes were received from the public, the shire's revised Road Hierarchy for 2023 to 2025 was adopted at this month's council meeting.

This encompasses recommended upgrades for Yarto Silo South, Jollys Road, Sawpit Swamp Road, Barrabool Road and Loeligers Road.
