With Horsham lacking athletics coaches, the pop-up session provided an opportunity for the young sprinters to learn tips and techniques.

Oberholzer, who coaches both track and football athletes, said the session was a good opportunity to work on aspects like technique and acceleration.

“I cover technical aspects, acceleration, plyometrics and some sprinting, and I integrate some games into it to make it more interesting for the kids," Oberholzer said.

“When I told them to fix something, they seemed to listen and take it in, which is great."

The session served as an ideal tune-up for the athletes ahead of the Little Athletics Western Country Region Track and Field Championships, which will be held at Brauerander Park, Warrnambool on February 7 and 8.
