Dimboola welcomed new business owners Michelle and Rick Danisch with open arms as they opened the doors to Desert Blooms Nursery just before Easter.

Located in the heart of Dimboola, on the main street, customers are welcomed by Ms Danisch while Mr Danisch works from home growing native plants on their property to sell in store.

Ms Danisch's mother Judy Dufty and friend Sharon Hartwich are part-time workers in the nursery.

The store offers a wide range of plants, including rare and indigenous plants native to the area, as well as potting mixes, fertilisers and giftware.

The team also offers landscaping advice.

Ms Danisch has 20 years' experience with plants and has sold in markets with her mother Judy Dufty for the past 15 years.

She also previously worked in a local nursery.

"It's my passion," she said.

"It's a no-brainer to open up the shop in my home town."

Ms Danisch has lived her whole life in Dimboola, where she has been involved in sporting clubs such as hockey, rowing, tennis, netball and bowling.

She has also been president of the Dimboola Basketball Association.

"This is what Dimboola needs - every shop here offers something different," she said.

Ms Danisch said business had been consistent since opening, with many different customers passing through.

"It's been great," she said. "I get to know everyone.

"Lots of people have been saying it's good to have something like this in town.

"Dimboola is expanding very rapidly."

Looking towards the future, Ms Danisch said they planned to add an outdoor nursery, a full range of garden needs and hardware.

Desert Blooms Nursery is open from 9am to 3pm from Saturday to Wednesday and has extended hours, until 5pm, on Thursday and Friday.

The business is at 109 Lloyd Street, Dimboola.
